Alistair gets his gong

A FIFE man has received his MBE during a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Alistair Newton, from St Andrews, was awarded the title when the Queen’s Birthday Honours list was revealed in June last year.

He was given the award for services to people with neurologic­al illnesses, particular­ly dystonia.

Mr Newton is a board adviser to Dystonia Europe, which supports people who have the neurologic­al movement disorder that affects muscle groups.

He is also a former executive director and founder president of the organisati­on, a former treasurer of the European Brain Council, and a past secretary-general and treasurer of the European Federation of Neurologic­al Associatio­ns.
