Wright pledges to ‘regroup’ ahead of Gers game
ST JOHNSTONE manager Tommy Wright is preparing his team to take on Rangers in the Ladbrokes Premiersh ip at Ibrox Park on Saturday fresh from their 5-0 aw ay S cot t i s h C up mau l i n g against Celtic.
It was Saints’ third match against the Parkhead side in 11 days, following two 2-0 league losses and their fourth game against Celtic this season, the Hoops winning 1-0 at McDiarmid Park earlier this season in the Betfred Cup.
Speaking after the 5-0 defeat, Tommy said: “We were simply beaten by a far better side. Celtic’s team cost millions.
“They’re better in every department. They’re stronger, quicker, with a better touch, and better players. It’s been difficult and we’ve come up short against a classy side.”
Saints have more tough games coming up.
After Rangers, they have home dates against Aberdeen and Hibs.
However, the Perth men sit sixth in the Premiership, four points ahead of seventh-placed Motherwell and Wright is adamant that the Celtic results will not spoil their season.
He added: “We have played a top side three times in a short space of time and now we have to move on.
“Rangers away is another difficult game but we will regroup and be ready and go and try to get a positive result.”
Today, Saints were meeting Rangers in a reserve match at McDiarmid Park with the Perth men giving runouts to some players who haven’t featured lately in the first team.
