St Francis boxer is Scottish champion

- BY JAMES MASSON

DUNDEE St Francis lightweight Stephen Donald beat John Duncan (Highland Boxing Academy) on points to win the gold medal in the final of the Scottish Intermediate division at the Westdyke Leisure Centre, Aberdeen.

It was a very closefought contest in which Duncan received a standing count in the first round after a Donald right hook to the head.

Both lads fought the next two rounds toe-to-toe with Donald winning a split decision.

This was Donald’s second gold medal of the season as he won the novice division as well back in October.

He will now drop down to featherweight to compete in the Scottish Elite division in March.

In the Northern District Schoolboys at the same venue, St Francis clubmates Dean Carroll and McKinley Lornie boxed each other in a semi-final.

Carroll won a tight decision but lost in the final to Damian Lukasiewicz in the junior light-flyweight division.

Other St Francis junior silver medals went to Luka Perrie and C-Jay Tarbett. Cole McMahon lost in his semi-final.

Three Perth boxers were also medal winners.

Fair City pair Jake Moir and Aaron Davidson and Perth Railway’s Jason Townsley won silver.

Meanwhile, Perth Railway’s multi-Scottish youth winner Luke Bibby boxes Clay Davidson on Friday in a senior bout put on by Kincorth ABC.
