No good luck as Stars lose fifth game in row

- BY KRIS SMITH

KITMART Dundee Stars ice hockey team lost for the fifth straight game as they went down 5-1 to Glasgow Clan in Braehead last night.

Dundee were again without the injured Francois Bouchard and Petr Chaloupka.

The home team opened the scoring when Scott Pitt put the finishing touch to a move in the seventh minute.

Dundee went down to just four defenders after Mike Sullivan took a puck to the face and didn’t return.

There were loud appeals from Stars fans as Matt Marquardt’s shot appeared to bounce in and out of the Clan goal but, despite protests for a video review of the goal from Dundee players, referee Toby Craig refused to review the situation.

That hugely impacted the game as Glasgow went on to double their lead a few minutes later. A failed clearance led to Guillaume Doucet tapping in a rebound after 18 minutes.

In a quiet second period, Dundee were not able to stop Clan from moving into a 3-0 lead as Gerard Hanson slotted a shot under Pontus Sjogren in the 23rd minute.

However, in the third period, the Tayside team came out firing but luck was the missing factor as one rebound fell the wrong way at one end before Brendan Connolly made it 4-0 at the other.

Then 28 seconds later, Stars finally found a response as Connor Cox got them on the board. Matt Beca then netted Clan’s fifth.

FRANCOIS Bouchard has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury.
