Park Tool edging nearer semis

PARK Tool sit on top of Group A in the Dundee Saturday Morning League Ross Kirk Memorial Cup with two wins on the spin.

They saw off St James 2-0 in a tight tussle.

A win in either of their remaining t wo games should see them through to the semis.

Cairdy Thistle bounced back from a previous defeat from Park Tool to record a 6-2 win over Fintry Athletic to get them off the mark.

They play Tool this weekend in the league.

In Group B, Stobswell made it two from two with a 3-2 win over Riverside CSC. DUSC got off the mark with a 2-1 victory over the Medics.

If Stobbie can take three points from Kettledrum this weekend, they should be confident of progressin­g out of the group into the semis.

Kettledrum are in fine form and moved into clear second spot in the Premier table with an 8-2 win over Hawkhill, who look doomed to relegation.

Hawkie find themselves nine points from safety with only seven league matches remaining.

Kettledrum’s win moves them to within nine points of league leaders Hilltown albeit with one game in hand.

The full card of cup games in the Riverview Utilities First Division scheduled at the University were postponed though one league match went ahead.

Cannon Fodder were in imperious form with their hard work on the training ground over the winter break paying dividends.

Four-nil up at the break against bottom club Sidlaw Albion, they turned it into a 10-1 victory by full-time.

Man of the Match Michael Craik nabbed a hat-trick from the wing, while Darren Thomson grabbed a brace. Club captain Paul ‘Berbo’ Scott scored the opener at a corner and there was a goal apiece for Robbie Ogilvie, Luc Pansu, Del Whyte and Craig Stewart for Steve McSwiggan’s charges.

The gaffer was forced to play a 15-minute cameo due to an injury to a player and pitched in with an assist for Stewart.

In the Trident Trophies Second Division Cup, FC Spartak booked their spot in the quarter-finals with a 3-2 group game win over Fife Thistle B.

In another group game, Dundee West only require to not lose by more than five goals this weekend to North End following their 4-0 success over City Rovers.

Dundee West had Billy Heeney (2), Mikey Malone and Conor Henderson on target.

North End need only avoid defeat by more than three goals to progress to the quarter-finals.

In Second Division league action, Powrie went three points clear at the summit over North End with an 18-1 win over bottom club Dundee Saints.

North End still have a game in hand and are in contention following their 2-0 win over Kelso.

With teams around them in cup action, Clark’s took advantage to move into fourth spot.

Clark’s 6-2 win over Lochee Albion saw them climb two places in the table.

The Beat’s 9-0 win over Rosebank sees them only a point off promotion.
