-

PARTICK Thistle t eam boss Gary Caldwell has heaped praise on Steven Anderson, t he central defender he has on loan from St Johnstone.

Ando, Saints’ record appearance holder, has joined the Jags until the end of the season with Thistle defender Niall Keown going on loan to Saints also until the end of the campaign.

Anderson scored on his Partick debut, the away league victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and also i n the Scottish Cup success away to East Fife.

He was vital to Partick’s efforts at both ends of the pitch in these fixtures and, following the East Fife tie, former Scotland central defender Caldwell said: “Ando’s been a great addition.

“I think I’d describe him as old school in the way he defends.

“He just wants to head things and put in tackles but he’s also smart enough to know when to do certain aspects of the game.

“He’s someone who y o u n g c e n t r e - h a lv e s should look up to and try to learn from.

“He’s been extremely successful in his career and uses his experience to command t he defence which helps those around him.”

Meanwhile, another Saints loanee, midfield man Kyle McClean, has impressed since his arrival at Linfield.

And he has cemented his arrival with a 90th-minute winner against Coleraine to keep David Healy’s side at the top of the Danske Bank Irish Premiership.

Linfield remain six points clear of Ballymena United after coming f rom 2-0 down to defeat Coleraine in the league.

Kyle has been in good form since moving to Linfield and his next game for them is this Saturday’s League Cup Final against Ballymena.
