Two men charged with series of thefts

TWO men have appeared in court after being charged in connection w it h a se r ies of at te mpted housebrea k i ngs a nd t hefts in two Angus towns over the last six weeks.

The men, aged 22 and 18, appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court.

The incidents happened in January and February in various areas of Brechin and Montrose and allegedly resulted in a number of items being stolen.

Sergeant Clark Renilson, of the Brechin and Montrose community policing team, said policing efforts in the two Angus towns had been stepped up following the alleged series of thefts.

Sgt Renilson added that the public should remain vigilant, despite the arrest of two men in connection with the alleged thefts.

He said: “Since these incidents occurred, there have been increased patrols in the area, particular­ly during the hours of darkness.

“I would still remind residents and local traders to remain vigilant with regard to security, ensuring that their doors are locked and that no valuables are l eft in their vehicles.”

He added: “I would also like to thank the public for their assistance with these inquiries, which are still ongoing.

“If you notice any suspicious activity in your area please call Police Scotland on 101 with any details, ideally at the time you notice it.”
