Officers quick to apprehend pair over attempted break-in
A LOCHEE councillor has pra ised loca l pol ice following an attempted break-in at a supermarket.
Officers were called to the Farmfoods store late yesterday following reports of two men seen acting “suspiciously” near the premises.
A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed two men were detained following a brief pursuit around the Flights Lane store just off High Street.
Councillor Alan Ross said he was “disappointed” to hear about last night’s incident – but praised the work of the police.
He said: “It’s good news to hear the police were able to apprehend these men as quickly as they have.
“It’s a credit to the police locality model that they were able to respond to matters in the ward as quickly as they have.
“I’m disappointed to hear this has happened.
“Although this is an isolated incident, I would urge businesses to review security measures at their premises.”
The Tele contacted Farmfoods and the supermarket chain confirmed an internal investigation would take place.
A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed officers were in attendance at around 9pm last night.
He added: “Two males were seen acting suspiciously and officers were called.
“The men ran off when police arrived and there was a brief pursuit on foot. “They have since been arrested. “We received a call at around 9pm.”
Meanwhile, pictures on social media last night showed ambulance crews near the junction of High Street and Bright Street.
A police spokeswoman said there had been no further arrests following the Farmfoods disturbance and the force was not aware of any other incidents in the ward around that time.
