- BY DENNY ANDONOVA

A TAYSI DE c hef who reached the final of one of the country’s most popular cooking programmes will visit Dundee for a special event.

MasterChef: the Professionals finalist Dean Banks will showcase his signature dishes to his local followers and fans in the city next month.

The Tele reported last week the foodie is also set to appear in his home town Carnoustie.

The budding restaurateur also announced he plans on opening a venue in Dundee.

Dean will appear at the Apex hotel at the end of March, where he will present a five-course signature dinner.

Dean said: “These events are a chance to give back to the people of Dundee.

“I’ve received so much support from them.

“When I announced that I would be opening a restaurant in Edinburgh, so many people contacted me saying to stay true to myself and open a restaurant here in Dundee.

“And I’d say that’s definitely in line. “I love coming back to Dundee. “The city is changing its image to the world.

“There are so many things happening in Dundee, like the opening of the V&A design museum.

“I can really start to see a space for my type of a restaurant.

“These events help me see the response I could get from locals, test the waters and see what feedback I’ll get.

“Hopefully one day I’ll open a restaurant in Dundee.

Dean will present a series of “modern fusion” dishes accompanied by a selection of drinks from Eden Mill near St Andrews.

The Angus chef has been busy hosting events throughout Scotland.

As well as touring the country, he has been adding the final touches on his soon-to-open restaurants, all in the wake of his appearance last year on the hit BBC show.

Dean’s first restaurant is expected to open doors i n St Andrews this April.

This will be shortly followed by another in Edinburgh.

The Bank of Eden event will take place at the Apex on March 31.

Tickets are still available and can be bought online.
