’Port boss ponders shuffling his pack

- BY JUNICUS

LOCHEE United are again on cup business this weekend when they host Tayport in the second round of the Signature Signs Cup.

This will be the second meeting of the clubs this season with the Bluebells claiming the bragging rights after a 2-0 victory in a league clash at The Canniepairt earlier in the season.

The Fifers will be aiming to be the first side to beat George Shields’ side this season but it is a tall order when you consider Lochee have gone 19 games without defeat, winning 17 of them.

’Port manager Steve Kay could make changes following last week’s disappointing second-half performance against Whitburn and one of them could be a spot for Jamie Gill, who returns to the squad.

They do, however, have fitness doubts over Craig Sturrock and Connor Ireland.

Lochee will again be without their injured trio of Alan Tulleth, Craig Smith and Danny Millar.

Lochee Harp and Downfield are in the same League Cup section and they have also been drawn against each other in the Signature Cup.

For Harp, Aaron Conway, Lloyd Young, Frankie Mullen Lewis Fyfe and Ryan Mitchell all out but Jay Smart and Brad Millar both return.

Downfield boss Paul Marr expects to pick from a full-strength squad.

Violet are involved in a first-round tie of the same competition when they head to Luncarty.

The Pansies will be quietly confident after beating their opponents 3-1 recently when they met in the Thorntons League Cup.

Manager John Dunn is unlikely to show many changes from the side that beat Forfar Albion 3-1 last week.

The in-form Bleachers – unbeaten in the league this season – rested striker Richard Doig last week but his return sees them at full strength.

North End play host to Lochgelly in the second round of the DJ Laing East Region Cup.

With new loan signing Kevin Milne banging in the goals it’s difficult to see anything other than a home victory against the bottom club in the South League.

IN the East of Scotland League, undefeated Jeanfield Swifts head to Conference C leaders Broxburn for a crunch clash.

Nine points may separate the pair but Ross Gunnion’s side have three games in hand and were 2-0 winners in the first meeting.

St Andrews host Edinburgh United. Andy McDonald and Nik Rendall are out.
