Foster eager to stop the rot for Saints on his return to Ibrox

-

ST JOHNSTONE defender Richard Foster is looking forward to returning to Ibrox tomorrow.

The former Rangers defender will be in the Perth squad to face his old side and he is looking for a good result to celebrate his deal extension.

He signed it earlier this week and it takes his stay at McDiarmid Park up till May of next year.

Despite losing their last five games, three losses against Celtic and one each to Hamilton and Hearts, Foster believes Saints have still had a good season.

He said: “We were unlucky to have been drawn against Celtic in both cup competitions and lost but in the league it’s, generally, going well.

“We had that great unbeaten and clean sheet run which saw us climb up the table and, looking at the sixth position we’re in now, it’s good.

“We’re four points in front of Motherwell and aim to stay at least sixth.

“After the Rangers game we have home fixtures against Aberdeen and Hibs so, hopefully, we can snap that losing run and pick up.

“If we can get the points we want out of the next run then I think it will give us the platform to go on.”

A hamstring strain he suffered against Rangers in t h i s w e e k ’s 1-1 McDiarmid Park reserve d r aw m e a n s M i c h a e l O’Halloran is likely to miss tomorrow’s match.

Manager Tommy Wright said: “Michael is a doubt. We got him off early so the damage isn’t too severe but it looks like it may keep him out.”

Danny Swanson may be in the starting line-up after doing well in that reserve game.

Meanwhile, reserve team skipper Alistair McCann has gone on loan to Stranraer for the rest of the season.
