Fire damaged Peugeot left abandoned on busy street
RESIDENTS have called for a n “eyesore” ca r to be moved after the vehicle was badly damaged in a fire.
The charred remains of a red Peugeot have been abandoned on Bell Street for almost a fortnight
Fire crews and police had to extinguish a raging blaze on February 5 which appeared to start underneath the bonnet.
A DVLA report revealed the vehicle has not been taxed since October 31 last year.
The document also said the car’s MOT was set to expire at the end of next month.
Local resident Ailie Sinclair said police had been to inspect the car in the aftermath of the incident.
She said: “I think it was someone in the block who contacted the fire crews at the time.
“I’ve got a vehicle here myself and there was some concern this might have been a deliberate fire.”
She added: “We spoke to officers regarding the fact the vehicle was still on the street two weeks after it was alight.
“The police have been inside the car to have a look.
“As far as we are aware it doesn’t belong to anyone living here.
“It is a bit of an eyesore sitting out there at the moment. We haven’t seen any sign of an owner.”
One resident said it did not look like the car shell would be removed “anytime soon”.
He added: “I remember everyone thinking it had been hit with a parking ticket after the fire.
“It is a bit of an eyesore, I’m amazed the authorities haven’t moved it on given the length of time that has passed since it happened.
“The fact it’s been untaxed since October doesn’t fill me with any confidence that the owner is likely to come back for it.”
Dundee City Council told the Tele it was not responsible for clearing away the wreckage of the vehicle.
Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
It is not known if the fire was started deliberately.
