Dryburgh lights shine brightly in the north

-

DRY BURGH made the long trip north to Elgin to face Moray Ladies and returned with a 7-1 win in SWPL2 (North).

The game started brightly on a boggy pitch with both teams looking to gain an early advantage.

The deadlock was finally broken after 26 minutes when Steffi Simson calmly finished after she was played through on goal.

Dryburgh did not have the lead for long as Moray equalised from a corner despite a goal-line clearance from Alix Barclay-Beatt during the move leading up to the goal.

This seemed to spur Dryburgh on and they took a 3-1 lead into half-time following a Hope Ramage strike, before she turned provider for Chloe Sturrock to score.

The second half was dominated by Dryburgh with Moray still offering a threat on the counter in the wide areas.

Some great football was played and Dryburgh consistently carved openings.

Simson added a further three goals in the second half with Ramage also grabbing her second of the game.

A great display ensured the match finished 7-1 Dryburgh and, on the back of the long trip, it was three well earned points before attention turns back to cup duty.

IN SWPL2, St Johnstone Women drew 1-1 at leaders Hearts.

The Perth girls scored a late leveller through Fern Newbigging with eight minutes left.
