Former Dark Blue Scott urged to impose himself on games by boss Del

-

ABERDEEN boss Derek McInnes has challenged winger Scott Wright to show the self belief needed to impose himself on games this season.

Wright started in the 2-1 defeat of RoPS Rovaniemi in the Europa League first qualifying round.

The 21-year-old came off the bench late on in the 2-1 victory in the return leg in Finland.

Wright, who was on loan at Dundee in the second half of last season, is in contention to face FC Chikhura Sachkhere in Georgia on Thursday.

McInnes said: “I gave Scott his debut against Daugava Riga at 16 and he came on and lit up the game at the right time.

“We are nearly five years on and he is a more rounded player and he is a brilliant boy, in terms of his approach because he works hard at his game.

“We just want Scott to go and have that wherewithal, self-confidence and belief to go and impose himself on any game against any opponent.

“Consistency is the key for t he wider players because they can make the difference in a game and get you off your seat when they isolate defenders.

“We have seen fleeting glances of that from Scott. He has the speed centrally or out wide to do that and we hope we see that repeated time and time again, not just i n a few games but over the course of a season.”

Wright made 13 appearances for Dundee, who were relegated from the Premiership.

On his return to Pittodrie he started all three pre-season friendlies and retained his place in the first leg against Rovaniemi at Pittodrie.

“Sometimes you have got to come back extra motivated and Scott, at his best, has a role to play for us, there is no question about that,” McInnes said.
