ST JOHNSTONE midfielder Murray Davidson is “loving it” at McDiarmid Park as he gears up for yet another season.

He is now in his 11th year with the club and said: “The move for me here from Livingston has been great.”

Davidson was speaking after starring in his side’s 4-0 Betfred Cup home success against Brechin City.

A Scott Tanser spot-kick sent Saints on their way with goals by Chris Kane, Callum Hendry and Matty Kennedy also counting.

Davidson added: “I’m fit and strong and that’s 90 minutes I have had in the last two games.”

During the summer, Davidson met up with former Saints Tam Scobbie and Steven McLean in Peebles to do some running and that has helped him fitness-wise.

He added: “We went on quite a few runs and they have helped to get me going.

“Steven lives in Peebles, my home area is just down the road and Tam is based not too far away and these sessions definitely helped my fitness.”

Davidson was a pivotal figure i n the win over Brechin and t he l oss against Ross County with deep runs into opposition territory and strong tackles and he admitted that “taking a few kicks” is part and parcel of his game.

H o w e v e r, h e c a m e through last night unscathed and is hoping to get another 90 minutes when Saints call i n at Forfar on Saturday.

Drey Wright, Liam Gordon and David Wotherspoon are all set to miss out, again through injury.

Meanwhile, Saints are believed to remain i n pursuit of Aberdeen’s Stevie May although there has been no word from McDiarmid Park as t o when any signing may be due to take place.
