Hard work is paying off for Forfarshire
SPORTS
THE fifth last weekend of the E aste r n Cr ic ket P rem ier Div ision resu lted in ra i n being the winner in all but two games.
However, leaders Forfarshire got back to winning ways at home to Royal High Corstorphine and Watsonians won away to Aberdeenshire.
At Forthill, the rain had fallen overnight but Forfarshire were keener than ever to get the game played and were hard at work all morning to dry the ground.
Their hard work resulted in a 2pm start 39 over game.
Having won the toss, they batted first.
Unfortunately for them, they lost Rory Johnston and Chris Greaves early.
However, the experienced and talented pair of Craig Wallace and Michael Leask put on a handy partnership of 90 before the latter fell for a well made 50 off 43 deliveries.
Wallace continued and made 102, his 18th hundred for Forfarshire.
Jack Hogarth hit a few at the end to finish on 21 not out and take the Dundee side to 218-8.
In pursuit of the runs, Bryce Alchin got the big wickets of professional and amateur Mohammed Saad and Josh Wood.
This brought Majid Haq to the crease and he made a composed 75 not out.
However, nobody really got going and Royal High Corstorphine ended up 45 runs short.
Alongside Alchin’s two wickets, Brock Ditchmen also took two wickets.
This got the Dundee side the win they needed to build momentum up for the title chase in the last few games.
Aberdeenshire l ooked like they were going to come out on top and get the win they needed when they bowled Watsonians out for 79 at Mannofield.
Zach Place top scored for the Edinburgh side with 22 and there were a few smaller contributions in there as well.
In reply, the Dons were 48-2 after 11 overs with Chris Venske 31 not out.
However, John Stinson took four wickets and the Edinburgh side’s pro, Malusi Siboto, produced a Man of the Match performance to take a five wicket haul and put a massive dent in the Aberdeen men’s hopes of survival.
