Robertson to ‘four’ for rampant ’Port

- BY JUNICUS

THE serious action starts next week but it’s been a good pre-season build up for Tayport as Saturday’s 5-2 win over Violet made it four wins out of four.

The Fifers took the lead in 10 minutes when Dayle Robertson got on the end of a Struan Christie cross. Robertson was set up by Jamie Gill for a second then completed his hat-trick to put the Fifers well in control at the break.

Ten minutes into the second half, Violet had something to shout about when Sam Nhamburo took advantage of defensive slackness to pull one back. However, within a couple of minutes, Perth lad Robertson added a fourth for the hosts with a strong run and finish.

With eight minutes left, the Pansies’ effort was rewarded when Ryan Corbitt lobbed the keeper for their second but Tayport responded almost immediately with a fifth from Jamie Gill.

After the match, Tayport skipper Ryan Suttie said: “We made a shaky start but, although we went on to dominate the game, it was disappointing to lose two goals.

“I’m sure we will get it much tougher in our opening league fixture next week against Downfield but we have had a good pre-season and we will be ready for the challenges ahead.”

Lochee United were in rampant form and showed no mercy to old rivals Harp with the Bluebells rattling in eight without reply.

Scott McComiskie was the star of the show with four of the goals and Kevin Buchan, Logan Davie, Reece Ritchie and Connor Birse also found the back of the Harp net.

Broughty Athletic were given a good work out at Culter with the Fed settling for a 1-1 draw in a hard-fought clash. Gary Fraser was the Fed marksman.

East Craigie and Montrose Roselea fought out a 1-1 draw at Links Park.

The Shipbuilders paid the penalty for failing to take their chances when, five minutes into the second half, Ryan Stewart fired the home side into the lead. It lasted only five minutes, however, as George Johnston levelled for the Shipbuilders.

Both sides pressed for a winner but defences stood firm and a draw was a fair result.

Lochgelly Albert proved to be a good test for North End with the Dokens having to battle hard for their 2-1 victory.

Kirrie Thistle manager Darren Scott was very pleased with his side as they beat Dyce Juniors 2-1 at Westview. They face North End next Saturday in the Super League North.
