Saints rekindle interest in May and also have Hemmings in sights

-

STEVIE May could yet be a St Johnstone player again with his move from Aberdeen thought to be back on.

It looked like the deal had foundered nearly a fortnight ago when it broke down just hours before May was due to make his second debut for Saints against Brechin.

However, it is believed to be back on again with the Perth side understood to have opened up talks with May.

Another frontman who could also be on his way to McDiarmid Park is former Dundee, Rangers and Cowdenbeath striker Kane Hemmings.

He left Dens three years ago for Oxford and also had a loan spell at Mansfield before signing for Notts County.

Unfortunately, they were relegated to the Vanarama Conference and lost their opening league game 1-0 away to Eastleigh on Saturday.

Hemmings was on the substitutes bench in that game.

County are thought to be aware of Saints’ interest and could do a deal to sell one of their higher earners.

However, Saints face competition for Hemmings from several English clubs, Carlisle United being one of them.

The Perth men are keen to get new players in after their 7-0 humiliation away to Celtic on Saturday.

Manager Tommy Wright said: “Our game plan went out the window when we conceded too early.

“It’s an uphill battle after that and we lost preventable goals.

“That isn’t enough.

“However, we will learn from it.”
