May deal off again so Saints will have to look elsewhere for striker

-

ST JOHNSTONE’s move to sign Stevie May from Aberdeen i s off for the second ti me as t erms could not be agreed.

The Fifer has flown out to Croatia with Aberdeen as part of their squad for tonight’s Europa League tie against Rijeka.

And it’s believed another Saints signing target, Kane Hemmings, is more likely to end up at Dundee for whom he formerly played.

Saints manager Tommy Wright has said he had two or three options regarding bringing strikers in and it looks as though he will have to move on to other targets.

Meanwhile, ex-Saint Stefan Scougall has agreed a new deal to keep himself with Carlisle United until the end of this season.

He i nitially joined the Brunton Park club on a short-term deal during the January transfer window earlier this year and went on to make 16 appearances for the club, scoring once when he slotted home from the penalty spot against MK Dons.

Carlisle boss Steven Pressley said: “I’m really pleased Stefan has decided to stay with us.

“At 26, he’s at a good age and is another player who is creative and who can play the game with high energy.

“His attitude is terrific, he sets a great example to others, and he comes back to us knowing that it’s an important season for both the club and him.

“He could easily have returned to Scotland but is desperate to continue his career south of the border.

“He brings an attacking element to our midfield. That’s important because I want us to be a team that is very positive and forward thinking.

“There’s no doubt he’s benefiting from having a full pre-season with us. From when he joined us in January he became more and more effective as each game went by.”
