Scottish Open won with super final round

-

SOUTH Korea’s Mi Jung Hur claimed her third LPGA Tour title with a brilliant final round in the ASI Ladies Scottish Open.

Hur defied the miserable conditions at The Renaissance Club, North Berwick, to card a closing 66 and finish 20-under-par, four shots ahead of compatriot Jeongeun Lee and Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn.

After playing the first eight holes in one-over-par, Hur recorded four birdies in a row from the ninth and also birdied the 16th and 18th in a back nine of 31 to secure her first win since 2014.

“Honestly I don’t like links courses but after this week I love it” Hur said.

“It was really tough with the rain but my caddie Gary is from Scotland and he helped me a lot on the course.”

Perthshire’s Carly Booth bogeyed two of her last three holes in a final round of 71 to finish joint ninth on 10-under-par.

The English quartet of Georgia Hall, Charley Hull, Bronte Law and Dame Laura Davies finished joint 24th with seven other players on five under.

OVERNIGHT leader Patrick Reed held off the challenge of Abraham Ancer to win The Northern Trust by a shot in New Jersey.

Reed began the day one shot ahead of Ancer and both hit a two-under-par 69, with the American finishing on 16 under for the tournament.

Harold Varner III and Jon Rahm came joint third on 14 under.

Rory McIlroy, who missed the cut at The Open, finished four shots behind Reed.

Adam Scott shot the round of the day, a sixunder-par 65, to finish three shots back on 13 under.

Ian Poulter and Justin Rose ended on 11 under but fellow countryman Danny Willett, who began the day three shots behind Reed, shot a four-over-par 75 to slip out of contention.

Bryson DeChambeau infuriated fellow pros with his slow play at the event.

The defending champion took more than two minutes to hit a 70-yard chip, and a similar time to line up an eight-foot putt, which he went on to miss.

Eddie Pepperell said: “He doesn’t care much for others.”
