A MILLION LOVE SONGS – BUT ONE FIRSTDANCE

YOUR OWN STORIES Take That the only choice for Lewis and Laura

-

THERE may be a million love songs out there but newlywed Laura Doherty knew exactly what she wanted for her first dance.

Although husband Lewis’s love for ’90s pop stars Take That is more of a secret admiration,

Laura knew the boy band had to form some part of the day.

The 26-year-old primary school teacher said: “It was important to both of us that our wedding ceremony was personal to us, so we asked my brother Andrew to read a poem during the wedding.

“It was a poem about two people who are made for each other, and he managed to add in some personal things about both of us which were both moving and funny.

“I am a massive Take That fan and Lewis secretly likes them too, so I’ve always known that we would have a Take That song as our first dance.

“We had my favourite song, A

Million Love Songs, as our first dance and it was just a perfect moment.”

The couple, who stay in the

Barnhill area of the city, met through mutual friends years before they got together at

Christmas 2014.

They were courting for more than two years before Lewis got down on one knee after managing to keep the ring hidden throughout a whole holiday with Laura’s parents.

Laura said: “We originally met years ago through mutual friends but we got together at the end of 2014.

“We bumped into each other about Christmas time and Lewis tells everyone that I was interested first but it was definitely him who approached me.

“For our first date, we went on a day trip to Edinburgh Zoo and we both remember feeling really nervous.”

Lewis, who is also 26 and installs synthetic surfaces, said: “We had been together for about two and a half years before I asked Laura to marry me.

“I proposed on July 29 2017 on the last day of a family holiday in

Mexico.

“We were there celebrating

Laura’s mum and dad’s 30th wedding anniversary.

“I managed to keep the ring hidden for the whole holiday and popped the question in our room when it was just the two of us together on our own.”

Laura added: “The proposal came as a total surprise and I remember being in complete shock when it happened.

“I always knew that Lewis was the one for me so I said yes straight away.”

Spending the next two years planning the wedding had its highs and lows for the couple.

The ceremony was held at

St Margaret’s Church with the reception taking place at

Carnoustie Golf Hotel, while

Angie B Photography was organised to take the stunning wedding images.

However, the couple said one thing took a lot of preparation.

Laura said: “We both loved visiting different venues before finally choosing Carnoustie Golf Hotel for our reception.

“We had lots of meetings with the wedding co-ordinator at the hotel and they were always really exciting as it made it all feel so real the closer we got to the wedding day.

“We enjoyed organising the whole wedding but the most stressful part was definitely doing the seating plan.

“We had about 15 drafts before we were finally able to settle on the final plan.

“We wanted everyone at the wedding to feel relaxed and have fun, which is exactly how it turned out.

“The dancefloor was filled all night and it was great to see all of our friends and family together having such a great time.”

For their honeymoon, the couple visited Florida for more than two weeks, visiting all the parks and going to all the tourist attractions including the space centre and

Daytona Beach.

Now back home, the newlyweds have had a chance to reflect on their big day.

They said: “The whole day was amazing from start to finish and we both enjoyed every part of it.

“We had people travelling from lots of different places, including Australia, and we both loved being able to share our special day with all of the people who are closest to us.

“We wish we could go back and relive the day all over again.”
