More to come from new man
JAMES McPake admitted he had to put the bra kes on
Kane Hem m ings despite h is “g reat” debut against Ayr.
The 27-year-old made a hero’s return to Dens Park on Saturday as he made his second debut for the Dark
Blues after leaving three years ago.
Though he didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet, his manager – and former team-mate at Dens – was delighted with the start his new striker made.
And he expects there’s much more to come with
Aberdeen in town this weekend after revealing the former Rangers kid’s extremely busy week in the run-up to his Dark Blues return.
James said: “He was great but I know exactly what he brings.
“He played 90 minutes on the Tuesday night, then travelled up here and had a flight delayed to midnight on the Wednesday but was in at Dens at 7.30 on Thursday morning for a medical.
“You could see he didn’t want to come off.
“He’ll be disappointed with the one he missed and
Danny Johnson was disappointed, too, when he came off and saw chances getting created. That’s great for me to see.
“I had to get Kane off before the week really caught up with him and he picked up an injury.
“He’s more than a goalscorer, he does the horrible side of being a striker very well and that’s why I loved playing with him and why our boys will take to him.”
Meanwhile, James was glad to have experienced midfielder Jamie Ness back available after a short injury.
So much so that he gave
Ness the captain’s armband for the visit of the Honest
Men.
“Jamie is great, he’s a leader, knows the game and he knows that position. He drags people through games as well and on Saturday he dragged himself through it because he tired late on. He will be massive for us.
“He’s been at big clubs,
Rangers up here and Stoke in the Premier League down south.
“He’s got a big mentality and he’s not afraid to dig people out when they need it but he encourages at the same time.”
