-

A SPECIAL weekend is being planned to bid farewell to Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the city’s Slessor Gardens for one last glimpse of the beloved sculptures found across the city this summer before they go up for auction.

All 36 large Oor Wullie sculptures and 33 wee statues, created by local schools and community groups, will be on display for one last public showing.

The newly created Wandering Wullies will also be on display before going up for auction.

The farewell celebrations are planned to take place from September 13-15 and offer people a last chance to see the Wullies.

Tickets are needed to attend the special weekend and will be issued in hourly time slots to give visitors time and space to see each Oor Wullie in detail.

They will be available to purchase online or in person at Dundee Box Office. Sarah Johnston, fundraising manager at the Archie Foundation, said: “We’ve had so much fun this summer and it has been fantastic to interact with the public who have really embraced the trail.

“We have loved chatting to people from across the country and further afield who have heard all about Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail.

“The Farewell Weekend will be one big celebration of the trail and a final chance to see the unique sculptures before they are auctioned raising vital funds for the Archie Foundation.

“We are expecting a packed weekend of visitors but there will still be some opportunities for those unable to get tickets to turn up on the day.”

Similar farewell events will also take place in the other bucket trail city across Scotland on the same weekend.

More than one million people have visited the trail since it began at the end of June.
