Champions Forfarshire look to finish season with victory in capital

- BY EXTRA COVER

THE last weekend of the cricket league season takes place tomorrow with the top and bottom spots already secured, Forfarshire becoming champions last weekend and Aberdeenshire’s fate at the bottom being decided on the same day.

Forfarshire travel to Edinburgh to face second bottom Stewart’s-Melville.

Although they have already done enough for the title, the Dundee outfit will want to finish well.

Craig Wallace and Michael Leask come back from international duty and they will be hoping to get big scores.

Chris Greaves has also had a fantastic season with the bat and will be aiming to round it off with more runs.

Callum Garden and Rory Johnston will also hope to score big.

Arbroath United also travel to the capital to face Watsonians.

Both have had below average seasons and will be determined to finish on a high.

The Lichties are without their mainstay this season, Whian Lubbe, so Mark Petrie and Calvin Burnett will need to play well if they are to get to a defendable total.

Craig Ramsey will be the main man with the ball with the help of youngster Daniel Salmond. Fergie Synman will also be important with the ball.

Sunday sees the Citylets Scottish Cup Final between Carlton and Heriot’s take place. This should be a hotly-contested game.

Both have firepower with Carlton having Fraser Burnett, Corne Dry and Rory McCann handy with the bat.

Heriot’s have the experience and consistency of Hayes van der Berg and Peter Ross with the bat.

They also have the likes of Elliot Ruthven, Ryan Brown and Scotland’s No 1 spinner Mark Watt. This could go either way depending on who executes their skills on the big day.
