Injury woe for Caley Jags ahead of trip to Dens

-

INVERNESS Caley Thistle will make the trip to Dundee for their Cha mpionsh ip t ie tomor row w it hout Brad Mckay, Cha rl ie Trafford and Sean Welsh.

There was, however, a boost for Caley Jags manager John Robertson and his Elgin counterpart Gavin Price with Daniel Mackay’s injury on loan at Borough Briggs not as bad as first feared.

Defender Mckay has been sidelined since suffering a back injury in Caley Jags’ opening day 4-1 loss to Dundee United on August 3, while Canadian midfielder Trafford has a knee problem.

The pair will miss tomorrow’s trip to Dens Park along with Welsh, who has recently recovered from a broken metatarsal, but manager John Robertson is hopeful all three will soon be back in the fold.

Robertson said: “We’ve found after a scan that Brad Mckay has a cracked vertebrae in his back, so he might be out for a few weeks.

“Sean Welsh is probably not quite ready to be involved in the squad, while Charlie Trafford picked up a knee knock as well, so those three won’t be involved tomorrow.”

Welsh made his first appearance since March in Tuesday’s 3-1 North of Scotland Cup victory over Forres Mechanics but Robertson insists he is still short of being fit enough to feature in first-team games and will not be risked at Dens.

It was feared attacker Mackay, on loan with Elgin City, had broken an ankle in the Black and Whites’ 1-0 loss to Stenhousemuir last week.

But scans have revealed ankle ligament damage and Robertson will hope the 18-year-old, who has played three matches since joining the League Two side earlier this month, can pick up from where he left off once he regains his fitness.
