Tanser warns Saints they can’t afford slow start at Easter Road

-

ST JOHNSTONE leftback Scott Tanser wants no repeat of the first-half showing against Livingston when Saints head for Hibs tomorrow.

However, he is very keen for a repeat of the Perth c l u b ’s second-half performance.

The Perth men trailed Livi 2-0 at half-time but battled back after the interval for a 2-2 divide.

Tanser was instrumental in that comeback, being involved in the move which led to the leveller.

His cross was deflected into the path of Chris Kane whose goalbound shot was s a v e d . H o w e v e r, the rebound fell to Callum Hendry who lashed the ball home.

Although Saints have made a poor start to the season, Tanser has begun it in good form.

He’s knocked in two goals this season, both of them spot-kicks in the Betfred Cup, and his good penalty record has carried on from last season.

He said: “We weren’t good enough in the first half against Livingston but really dug in after half-time.

“We really got it together and really went at them.

“We were very flat in the first half but, after Matty Kennedy’s goal got us back in it, our fans got right behind us and encouraged us.

“Thankfully, we gave them something to shout about by getting level and winning a point.

“Now we want to take that second-half showing into the whole Hibs game. That is what we are aiming for.”

Meanwhile, former Saint Tony Watt has had a mixed time since joining Bulgarians CSKA Sofia a few months ago.

His t eam have been knocked out of the Europa League by Ukrainians Zorya but he has started finding the back of the net.

He has scored twice in the five games he has played.
