Band on the hunt
AN Angus community brass band i s on t he hunt for a t emporary bandmaster.
The Montrose Town Band musicians are looking for someone to guide them t hrough weekly rehearsals and conduct at playing engagements until the end of the year.
Bandmaster Jim Easton had to temporarily step down from the role after a period of ill health.
Band treasurer Gillian Dempster said: “The band is raring to go but unfortunately has no deputy bandmaster.
“Jim i s now on t he mend but is yet unable to resume the leadership of the band.” THE Dundee International Women’s Centre has picked up an award recognising its work in supporting inclusion in the local area.
The Dundonald Street centre won the Women’s Support Group award at the 2019 Scottish Women’s Awards, which took place at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on August 28.
It has been providing empowerment and support to local women from all walks of life for the last five decades through social gatherings, classes in English, art and cooking and support services in the community. FOUR Tayside men have been arrested following what is understood to be a probe into alleged illegal gambling on a Scottish football match.
Police confirmed the men, one aged 22 and the others aged 24, were arrested and charged in connection with offences under the Gambling Act 2005 in Montrose last week.
It is understood one of the men charged is Elgin City forward Kane Hester, who moved to the club from Arbroath in the summer.
However, police did not identify any of the men involved or confirm the fixture in question.
A spokesman for the Scottish Football Association (SFA) declined to comment on the matter as it is a live criminal case.
The SFA’s rules on gambling state that “no club, official, team official or other member of team staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall gamble in any way on a football match”.
