Saints beat deadline to snap up Holt after capture of Ralston

-

ST JOHNSTONE made midfield man Jason Holt their second deadline-day signing when they snapped him up from Rangers on a season-long loan.

It follows on from their capture of Celtic full-back Anthony Ralston earlier in the day, also on loan until the end of the campaign.

In a statement, Saints said: “The club is delighted to announce the signing of Rangers midfielder Jason Holt.”

Holt joins Saints after a temporary spell with Fleetwood last term where he made 36 appearances for the English League One outfit.

Holt has made 116 appearances in his time at Rangers having started his career at Hearts, coming through the Tynecastle club’s youth academy.

Holt is a former Scotland U/21 international and was capped seven times for Scotland at youth level.

Ralston said he was delighted to be at Saints and was already looking forward to playing with his new team-mates.

“I’m really pleased,” he said. “It’s been on the cards for a while and I’m happy it’s all finalised.

“Obviously, being at a club like Celtic is great and it’s a fantastic environment to play football. Hopefully, I can use that experience here to help St Johnstone move forward.

“I want to win every game. I’ll give my all to help defensively first and foremost but, hopefully, I can contribute at the other end as well.”

On his new boss, Tommy Wright, Ralston added: “The manager was really keen to get me here and that was i mportant for me.”

Meanwhile, young midfield man Kyle McClean has left Saints by mutual consent.

He i s presently away with the Northern Ireland U/21 squad.
