’Burgh put down early marker

-

DRYBURGH Girls U/17 thumped Hutchison Vale 5-0 at Lochee Park in a dress rehearsal for their Scottish Cup quarter-final meeting.

After a goalless first half, Dryburgh took the lead when Sophie Hunt’s left-foot strike found the bottom right corner, after a great pass from Grace Forrester.

Katie Shaw then doubled the advantage with a lovely finish from the edge of the box.

Shaw was at it again just moments later for No 3.

Deon Hamilton capped a Player-of-the-Match display, driving forward midfield and producing a fabulous finish.

Hope McLachlan topped off a five-star second-half display with a great finish from close range, after good work from Hunt and Abby Schofield. The result leaves the hosts top of the SWF South East League.

DRYBURGH Girls U/15 also hit five, away to Monifieth.

All the goals came in the second half.

Deryn Turner was alert to knock in the opener from close range.

Then Abi Bennett was upended in the box and Morgan Airlie calmly slotted home the resultant penalty.

Chloe Clarkson got Dryburgh’s third with a fine strike from 20 yards before Abigael Lindsay calmly placed her rightfoot shot into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

Lindsay then got her 15th goal of the season, with a trademark strike from outside the box.

DUNDEE East U/14 went down 6-2 to Dryburgh at Dawson Park.

Howett, Hurrell (3), Brady and Moran were on target for the winners.

St James Dragons reached the final of the U/13 League Cup with a 2-0 win over Dryburgh at Fairfield Park.

CELTIC U/19 proved too strong for Jeanfield Swifts in a National Performance League clash last week at Riverside Stadium, winning 8-2.

Swifts were under the cosh early with Kaitlyn Doig and Millie Coffield making good blocks.

However, it was the home team who had the first sniff at a goal.

Leah Sidey won the ball just inside the Celtic half before feeding Sky Steele.

Steele delivered a tempting cross but it flashed just in front of Fern Newbigging.

Swifts keeper Megan Sidey then denied Kirsty O’Brien but the striker made no mistake moments later when she lobbed in the opener.

Parity was restored shortly after when Newbigging knocked the ball in from close range.

The Hoops upped a gear and three quickfire goals saw them take control of proceedings.

The Perth side had chances but lacked composure at the vital moments.

However, they did pull a goal back when Leah Sidey’s exquisite left-foot strike from outside the box found the back of the net.

But there was no denying Celtic were the stronger side and they bagged four more unanswered goals after the interval.

Swifts were not without chances of their own, as Sidey, Newbigging, Steel and Alex Robson all tested the keeper, while Eilidh Davies’s left-footed half-volley went just over.

The home side suffered a blow when captain Millie Coffield had to leave the pitch with bruised ankle ligaments and only some fantastic stops from keeper Sidey kept the score down.
