McInnes satisfied with transfer business at Dons

-

A BE R DE E N ma nager Derek McInnes insists he is satisfied with his recruitment after the t r a n s fe r w i n dow c lo s e d o n Monday w ithout any transfer activity at Pittodrie.

While most clubs in the Premiership spent Monday wheeling and dealing, the Dons were not one of them but McInnes is satisfied with his work.

He said: “Our window was closed weeks ago.

“Every manager, every supporter, would love to bring in more players on deadline day but we tried to put our squad together early.

“We have brought nine players in, which is a lot, and we were fortunate to fill the squad early. If everyone is fit we can look forward to the season with optimism.

“We’ve spent £125,000 putting this squad together and it has settled quickly. It’s important we knuckle down and focus on the job at hand.”

One of the last pieces of transfer activity at Aberdeen was the departure of striker Stevie May.

He has returned to St Johnstone after a disappointing two years at the club but McInnes hopes the forward can get back to the form which made him a bright young prospect in Scottish football with his new club.

McInnes said: “Stevie made it clear he was focused on a return to St Johnstone. He is a local boy and persevered to get it done.

“Sam Cosgrove scored a lot of goals and Stevie going out and playing regularly was the best plan for him.

“I’m no doubt he will do well and, if all the boys I worked with were like Stevie, it would be easy being a manager.

“How he applies himself will serve him well going forward.”
