E LGI N C it y m id f ie lde r Br ia n Cameron believes the rest of L e a g ue 2 w i l l b e on n ot ic e after h is side’s shock 2-1 w in over Dundee.

The Black and Whites dumped the Championship title contenders out of the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup with a shock win on Sunday. Their reward is a trip to Airdrieonians in the last 16 of the competition, while Caley Thistle were drawn at home to Alloa.

Cameron hopes his side can take the lift from their dazzling Dens Park display i nto their league form.

They face Stirling Albion at Forthbank on Saturday, with the home side yet to take any points.

Elgin have six from their five games and have only been beaten once.

Beating Dundee, however, can only serve to galvanise the side for the challenges ahead, with Cameron hopeful of a play-off berth this season.

He said: “It’s massive for our confidence. The rest of the league will sit up and take notice.

“Nobody likes coming up to Elgin because it’s so far away and we need to take that into our hands.

“We can’t be complacent, we need to push on.

“We’ve had a sticky start to the league, so we’ve got to take the confidence from this. It’ll stand us in good stead.

“Play-offs is a minimum – the manager has brought in some good young players and I think we can match anyone on our day.

“Football-wise, it is one of the strongest sides we’ve had.

“In previous years we’ve had a lot of battlers and ball-winners but there’s a team that can play. That’s how the manager likes to set up and it works in our favour.”
