Eating Not just cake on offer at Ferry kitchen

-

FOR cafes and restaurants across the country, social media is now a vital tool in enticing customers into their premises.

When it comes to cakes, desserts, burgers or pizzas – as well as anything with salt and chilli, it seems – posts attract thousands of likes on a daily basis.

One cafe in Dundee which thrives under this new obsession with all things food on Facebook and Instagram is Jessie’s Kitchen.

The business has become a real favourite among residents across Tayside – and for good reason.

It offers up so many cakes, you’ll be hard pushed to actually decide on one.

This was my first visit to the cafe and if you’re not impressed by it as soon as you turn the corner then there is something wrong.

It’s not a run of the mill eatery, more like going round to a rich relative’s for lunch.

The sprawling greens and large sandstone house are a great setting for a Sunday afternoon when the sun is shining – which it happened to be when my dining partner and I arrived.

If the outside is impressive, the inside is equally as breathtaking with its bright pink decor.

It’s quite unusual in that each room is separate and it genuinely feels like you’re in someone’s house having lunch.

As much as the cakes are the main event, the cafe also offers a host of different dishes for lunch.

There’s the run of the mill sandwiches and soup, as well as larger dishes which you can take your pick from.

I am quite straightforward when it comes to lunch and plumped for a prawn sandwich – because I’m extremely posh – with a bowl of lentil soup.

It was a good feed and about what you would expect from any decent cafe with the sandwich filled well and the soup on point.

My companion went for a steak sandwich, which was rammed full with strips of beef as well
