Dragons deliver in league opener

-

ST JAMES Dragons began their Lisa Evans East League campaign with a 3-0 win over Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts.

The game started slowly with both teams taking time to find their feet.

Dragons missed several opportunities to go ahead in the f i r s t ha l f w i t h Inverkeithing’s goalie pulling off some fine saves.

The stalemate was broken early in the second half when Callie Bowman struck for Dragons.

The home side had their tails up and it was no surprise when they added two further goals to their tally in a blistering threeminute spell.

Elise Salmond grabbed the first with skipper Aimee Dolan bagging No 3 after being set up by a Salmond pass.

Swifts had a couple chances but Madison Milne in the Dragons goal kept them at bay.

The Dragons Player of the Match was Hali Cargill.

Dragons boss Samantha Fyfe said: “I was delighted with the three points and happy to kick our league off with a win. Inverkeithing are a very good side with some strong fast-paced players who really impressed us.”

ST JAMES Dragons Blues beat Montrose 1-0 at Fairfield Park.

The game flowed from end to end from the start, with both sides having chances to score.

Hollie Melville, Taylor Watson and Hollie Carty did well for Dragons, linking with their forwards.

Kayleigh Duncan (named as Player of the Match), Kodi McLeary and Ashton Winter all had shots at goal but couldn’t find the net as the first half ended goalless.

Dragons made changes at half-time and had a good spell, pinning Montrose back deep into their own half.

Caisey Gowans and Angel Low both saw shots saved by the visiting keeper.

Montrose then broke out but were stopped by Abbie Stewart, who, unfortunately, hurt her knee in the process and had to leave the pitch.

Dragons then resumed the pressure on Montrose with Duncan having a shot saved before Low weaved her way through the defence and scored.

Montrose then came close to equalising from a free-kick just outside of the Dragons box.

However, the wall stood strong, deflecting the shot which Emily Black collected.

Dragons gaffer Stuart Melville was delighted with the win against a team previously undefeated in the league this year.
