US star says ‘bring it on’
SPORTS Kang insists she is ready for battle at Solheim Cup
DANIELLE Kang insists she will not be repeating Patrick Reed’s “shush” gesture to the home crowd at Gleneagles during the Solheim Cup.
But the 26-year-old looks set to become the latest pantomime villain of team golf as the United States seek a third straight victory in the biennial contest with Europe this weekend.
Kang won three of her four matches on her debut in Des Moines in 2017 and makes no secret of the fact she is relishing the opportunity for more head-tohead competition.
Kang said she expects to be booed when play gets under way tomorrow and although she later claimed to be joking, there is no doubt she will not be backing down from a fight.
“Des Moines was pretty topnotch for me. I had an amazing time,” Kang said. “The crowds were incredible. The fact we were on US soil obviously made it better and I heard all the USA chants.
“However, since we’re in Scotland, I don’t know what I’m going to hear. I hear that I’m going to be booed at one point. So bring it on.
“I’d rather hear loud booing at that point. I’ll still have them cheer as loud as they can, whoever they want to cheer for, but I still want to hear them. So I’m excited.
“I’m loud whether I’m in Nevada or in Scotland. I don’t think I change no matter where I am. I’m definitely going to embrace the first tee. I’m going to embrace whenever I get a chance to hit it. I’m going to embrace the fans out there for the entire golf course, whenever I get to play.”
Asked if she will copy Reed’s gestures to the crowd during the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, Kang joked: “I can’t shush the crowd. I like noise. I can’t be shushed.”
