‘Hard, stressful summer’ but now Booth is happy to be with St Johnstone

-

NEW St Johnstone defender Callum Booth has had “a hard stressful summer” after signing for Bury and then seeing the English side expelled from the league.

Booth, who had been with Dundee United last year before heading south, has ended Saints’ search for a left-back.

Manager Tommy Wright wanted someone in as cover for Scott Tanser and now he has got his man.

Booth said: “It’s great to get things sorted.

“It really is good because it has been a hard, stressful summer for me.

“I left Dundee United for Bury but the problems there set in and now they are out of the league.

“I’m delighted to be at Saints and really looking forward to my football here.

“I’ve kept myself fit by training.

“Scott Tanser has done well since coming to Saints and I am going to work hard and see what happens.

“There is good competition for places at the club and I am happy to be part of things here.”

The 28-year-old comes from Stranraer and started his professional career with Hibs.

Booth then had l oan spells at Arbroath, Brechin City, Livingston, Raith Rovers and Partick Thistle before joining the Jags on a permanent deal.

Then it was on to Dundee United before his move to Bury and now he’s at St Johnstone.

S a i n t s’ team boss Tommy Wright said: “We have signed Callum till January.

“This will give us the competition we have been looking for at left-back.

“He is a great quality player to pick up at this time of the year for nothing. He knows the league well, i s versatile and a good age and is ready to go straight into the squad.”
