On the lookout for award

MONTROSE building firm MCK Constructi­on has beaten hundreds of firms across the UK to scoop the overall award in the Federation of Master Builders’ (FMB) annual awards.

The awards are designed to celebrate the nation’s best builders and the master builder accolade is the highest award given at the ceremony.

TV presenter and building enthusiast Nick Knowles handed t he award to MCK for its work on the old coastguard lookout tower in the fishing village of Usan.

The firm also won the large renovation category at the national ceremony.

The Usan coastguard tower was f ormerly a lookout post.

Brian Berry, chief executive of the FMB, said: “T h e m a st e r b u i l d e r award is the highest honour bestowed upon hundreds of nominees.

“Saving a derelict coastguard tower built over 100 years ago and turning it into a family home is no mean feat.” A FUNERAL has been held for a police officer who died after falling ill while on duty in Angus.

Roy Buggins, 51, had 29 years’ service as an officer.

He was described as having been a “highly valued and well-respected” member of the Montrose and Brechin Community Policing Team.

Mr Buggins died after taking unwell on Tuesday September 3.

Police Scotland said there were no suspicious circumstan­ces surroundin­g the death.

The funeral was held yesterday at Parkgrove Crematoriu­m i n Friockheim.

A bagpiper walked in front of the procession and officers formed a guard of honour as the coffin – which had been draped with a sheet bearing the Police Scotland logo – was conveyed to the crematoriu­m.

Police Scotland Chief Constable Iain Livingston­e was among those in attendance.
