Photograph competition

-

AMATEUR photographers are being invited to capture “A Day in the Life of Montrose Port” in a new community competition.

Montrose Port Authority is running the event, with prizes for winners in secondary school and adult categories.

Winning images will be framed and displayed in the port authority offices.

Port authority chief executive Tom Hutchison said: “The port is a thriving, busy place so there is plenty scope for photographers to capture something original .”

The closing date for entries is November 1. Details can be found at montroseport.co.uk. STAFF at two Dundee butcher shops have found the recipe for success after each scooping two top prizes at a national contest.

Grossett Butchers, on Arbroath Road, won two awards in this year’s Scottish Craft Butchers Awards and Scott Brothers also collected two prizes.

And the city shops faced tough opposition with more than 280 pies on show at the heats in Stirling’s Forth Valley College where they were tested for appearance, flavour, filling and appeal. A YOUNG entrepreneur is hoping to breathe fresh life into the city centre with the opening of his new restaurant.

Usman Hyat, 24, is hoping to open Ozzy’s on the Murraygate later this week, inspired by his nickname.

The eatery, which will be in the unit that was occupied by Tastybites, will specialise in a range of gourmet burgers and piripiri chicken.

Ozzy says the restaurant will also offer several variations of an all-day breakfast.

Speaking to the Tele, he said he wanted to do something different at the Murraygate end of the city centre.

He said: “There’s no other burger and chicken restaurants at this side of town.

“There are plenty of cafes, but few people are offering a place to sit down for a range of food as well as desserts.”

Ozzy says that he’s always been interested in food and thinks now is a good time to get into the sector.
