Gary wields the axe as Berrypickers stay top of Premier pile

-

PREMIER League leaders Blairgowrie remain unbeaten after nine league games but only after narrowly defeating Arbroath Vics at Davie Park.

Indeed, the much-improved visitors had the better of the first half but Blair broke the deadlock with a Gary Axworthy goal in the first minute of the second 45.

Matty Adams added a second after 70 minutes to effectively seal victory, with Vics goal – an injury time Andi Manolache penalty – coming i n injury time.

Forfar Albion’s 3-1 home win over Coupar Angus hoisted them off the foot of the table, leapfrogging their visitors and Lochee Harp.

New signing Andy Patullo, from Violet, and another recent recruit Calum Rennie, plus Ross Fraser, were on target for Albion.

Lee Davidson netted for the visitors.

The last time East Craigie met Harp they rattled in seven goals.

They didn’t find it quite so easy in their latest clash with the Shipbuilders scraping the points with a 1-0 victory thanks to a Fraser McLeod strike.

The win keeps Craigie a point behind leaders Blairgowrie but they have a game in hand.

Violet took a step up the league with an impressive 3-1 win at Brechin Vics.

The Pansies always looked in control with Sean Tucker giving them the lead.

Jay Taylor doubled their advantage before the break and Derek Johnstone added to the home misery with a third.

Vics pulled one back through Rikki Gillespie but it was no more than a consolation.

NEWBURGH stay top of the South Premier League after a 3-1 home win over Sauchie.

Goals from Ben Scarborough and Aidan Edwards gave ’Burgh a two-goal interval advantage and Jack Hutchison extended that lead before the visitors pulled one back late on.

RESULT of the week – FORFAR WEST END’S 4-0 win at Scone caught the eye.
