Seven is heaven for Nomads (3)

-

IT was a busy week for Dundee area badminton with the first round of fixtures in the Gents and Ladies Doubles Leagues and the start of the Mixed League Second Division.

The Miller Hendry Second Division promises to be an intriguing league this season, being made up of a mixture of Second and Third Division teams from last season, along with what looks like a strong returning Carnoustie Panbride.

Nomads (3) are one of the teams who may fancy their title chances.

They started their season superbly with a 7-0 win away to Menzieshill. Ebu Omenuko, Benjamin Cerfontaine and Susan Cummings all had three wins.

Dundee University (4) won the varsity derby against St Andrews.

After a win apiece in the level doubles, Dundee took a 2-1 lead going into the final round of fixtures.

It was a 21-16 21-15 win by Shuyu ‘Susan’ Li and Jiazhen ‘Roy’ Zhang in the penultimate game that clinched a 4-1 victory.

In Miller Hendry Division One, champions Dundee University are looking strong.

They moved to the top of the table with a 5-0 win against Roseangle.

Stephanie Scott-Flynn and Shuvam Sarker once again starred.

Nomads, keen to win back their title, started with a 5-1 win against their own second string. Marc Van Der Kuyl was their top player with three wins.

In the Miller Hendy Ladies Doubles, champions NCR got off to a great start with a 5-0 win against Carnoustie Panbride. Anne Wallace and Emma Defew starred.

The other match between David Lloyd and Lunchtime Badminton was much tighter, 2-2 going into the final round of fixtures.

Jane Tyler and Alison Hay clinched a 4-2 win for Lunchtime.

In the Miller Hendry Gents Doubles Division Two, there were big wins for Lunchtime Badminton and Kirriemuir.

Lunchtime had a 5-0 win against Abertay University, while Kirriemuir beat David Lloyd 6-0.

In Division One, Chris and Co. were hampered by being a player short but they drew against NCR.

Last season’s champs, Carnoustie Panbride, started very well, winning 6-0 against their second string.
