Great strike seals Dryburgh win

-

DRYBURGH Girls U/15 won 3-2 away against Dunfermline to go top of the SWF East U/15 League.

The game started with the Dundee outfit on the front foot, pinning the home side back. They were playing some nice football, with Abigael Lindsay and Maia Laing bossing the midfield.

Sophie Hunt and Lindsay tested the Dunfermline goalkeeper early on, the latter forcing an excellent diving save that was palmed away for a corner.

The visitors took a deserved l ead midway through the half. Good work from Hunt on the left resulted in a corner which Belle Thomson took. She whipped in a wicked ball for Laing to send a fine header past the Pars keeper.

Dryburgh’s l ead was doubled just a few minutes later.

Again, it came via a Thomson corner from the left. The home side failed to clear and Hunt did well to get the ball out of her feet before finishing high into the net from 12 yards through a crowd of bodies.

Dryburgh looked in total control and a great touch from Deryn Turner sent her strike partner Hannah Marsh clear. She did everything right but was denied by another excellent stop by the keeper.

After the break, the home side came out a different team and got a goal back when a counter attack was well finished.

’Burgh almost restored their two-goal cushion when Kerris Harris saw her goalbound shot blocked, following a goalmouth scramble.

Hunt was next to threaten for the visitors but Dryburgh were again denied a third goal by the keeper.

The home side then drew level.

Dryburgh showed their character, though, and continued to probe for a third goal.

Hunt was brought down by the home goalkeeper and Lindsay produced a stunning curling rightfooted effort that found the top corner of the net.

’Burgh had chances to make the game safe through Hunt and Stacie Moodie.

At the other end, Sarah McIntosh, in the Dryburgh goal, had to be alert to clutch a dangerous looking cross with the game deep into injury time.

On Sunday, Dryburgh U/17 meet Hibs in a Glenesk Park friendly (11.30am).

They will be presented with the SWF South-East U/17 League trophy. Entry is free.
