Wright delight as Saints sparkle to secure first league win of the season
ST JOHNSTONE manager Tommy Wright couldn’t hide his delight at his side gaining their first three points of the league season.
They deservedly beat Hamilton 3-2 at McDiarmid Pa r k w i t h t w o D av i d Wotherspoon goals and a winner from substitute Callum Hendry.
Wright said: “It was a game that had everything and we deserved the three points.
“My players did all I asked of them and should have been out of sight by the ti me we got the winner.
“The players showed c h a r a c t e r, responded magnificently and I am pleased and relieved for them.
“We played on the front foot throughout.
“My squad is a young, developing one and I will stick with them.”
Two-goal Wotherspoon was the star of the show but Wright made the point that “all my players were good”.
He noted that, aside from the two goals from Accies, keeper Zander Clark wasn’t troubled and he was delighted at the number of opportunities his side created.
“We netted with three good strikes and I got the right reaction after our loss away to St Mirren.”
Hendry has a habit of scoring after coming off the substitutes bench and he did it again. Whether or not it will be enough to get him a start at home to Hearts on Wednesday remains to be seen.

Wright said: “He is one of the best, if not the best, young midfielder in Scotland.
“He has now been capped at U/21 level by Northern Ireland and I am really happy with the way he has come on.”
