Kennedy believes Saints can make their way up the Premiership table

-

ST JOHNSTONE attacker Matty Kennedy believes the club can start making their way towards the Premiership top six if they beat Hear ts at home tomorrow night.

Kennedy played a pivotal role in Saints’ opening league success of the season, Saturday’s 3-2 McDiarmid Park win over Hamilton.

He was a constant threat to the visiting defence and is set to be a key player for Saints against the Jam Tarts.

He said: “If we beat Hearts we go above them and we can then start making further inroads to the top end of the table.

“I scored against Hearts the last time they were at McDiarmid and, as long as we win, I don’t care who gets the goals.

“Despite our poor start to the season, we should be aiming for the top six.

“We deserve to have more points than we have but we have lost sloppy goals and must put a stop to that, starting tomorrow night.

“We conceded two goals against Hamilton and can’t keep doing that as we won’t be scoring three times every game.

“We created a lot of chances against Hamilton and, hopefully, now we have that first league win, we can kick on.

“That victory has given us a lift.”

Kennedy has received a personal boost after being called up to the f ul l Northern Ireland squad.

“I want to stay in that squad. That is a target for me to aim for and staying in good form will help me keep my place i n t he Northern I reland pool,” Kennedy added.

David Wotherspoon was the Man of t he Match against Hamilton and is likely to again be in the Saints starting line-up.

Callum Hendry netted the winner after coming on as a substitute but whether or not he starts remains to be seen.
