Roseangle cash in versus NCR
THE Dundee and District Badminton League Handicap Cup got under way with an intriguing tie between last season’s beaten finalists Roseangle and old rivals NCR.
The pair hadn’t met for a few years and the expectation was it would be a close affair.
However, Cash were unable to make the handicap count and Roseangle won 6-0 with Seona Stalker and Sarah Brogan in great form with three wins apiece.
Nomads (3) made the semi-finals last year and will be aiming to emulate or better that feat.
They eased into the quarter-finals with a 7-0 win over Aberaty University with Jill Paton and Ebu Omenuko their star performers with three wins each.
In Miller Hendry Division Two, Nomads (3) moved to the top of the table.
However, they didn’t have it all their own way in a 6-3 win away against St Andrews University.
It was level pegging after the level doubles with Nomads winning both ladies doubles but the students being victorious in the gents. However, the Dundee team were convincing in the mixed, winning four of the five games, with sisters Chloe and Meghan Walker in great form with three wins each.
Monifieth Grove got their season off to a great start with a 4-2 win away against Dundee University (4).
It was close early on with the first three games drawn but Monifieth Grove took a 2-1 lead into the final round where a similar outcome sealed the victory. A 310-307 points difference overall showed how close this was.
Third Division champs Nomads (4) also got off to a storming start with a fantastic 8-0 victory against Abertay University.
There was an inter-club derby in Miller Hendry Division One. Dundee University (2) were the early leaders following a 6-1 win against their third string. Kanou GordonLevitt starred with three victories.
There was a fantastic turnout at DISC for the first ever Dundee EBA Bronze. Eighty players competed playing some great badminton.
