West’s Joiner hammers nail into Fifers’ cup hope
SUPERSUB Kyle Joiner w a s D u nde e West Re d s’ he r o a s h i s se cond-h a l f t r eble helped his team to an i m pr ess i ve 5-1 win over previouslyu nbeaten East Fi fe CFC in the U/13 East Region Cup.
The striker had been benched after a few indifferent performances but, with his team 1-0 down at the interval against the Fifers, responded i n fine fashion as the Dundee outfit marched into the last 16.
However, Lee Brown’s side were made to work for their win.
The manager said: “The wind played a big part in the first half but, although we were losing, I always thought we’d turn it around.
“Kyle was on the bench because his workrate hasn’t been up to scratch recently but he responded in the right manner.”
While Joiner received most of the plaudits, it was Manof-the-Match Brayden
Cumming who levelled the scores just after the break, the left midfielder netting from a corner.
Two great finishes from Joiner then put West in the driving seat before Kayne Tosh capitalised on a rebound from the keeper for No 4.
Joiner completed his hat-trick in the final minute to set up a home tie against either Kinross Colts or Kirkcaldy Inter.
“It was a good all-round team display and, as well as the scorers, there were good performances from rightback Harley Drimman and James Breen, who started up front but dropped back into midfield in the second half,” added Brown.
“We’ve had a fantastic start to the season, playing 10 games, losing only once.
“We are at home to Ferry Athletic in the league on Sunday. They are run by Brian Craik and are a decent side. They’ve drawn a few fixtures but we’re expecting a tough game.”
