Fed’s opportunity to reel in Gowfers

- BY JUNICUS

THE big game in the North Super League tomorrow is at Laing Park where topo f- t h e - t a b l e C a r n o u s t i e meet second-top Broughty Athletic.

The Gowfers are currently four points ahead and also have a game in hand, so the pressure is on the Fed to stop them stretching their lead further.

With 10 goals in their last two games, Jamie McCunnie’s side won’t be short on confidence, though, and will be out to avenge a 3-1 defeat when they last met at Whitton Park.

The Gowfers have a full pool available which includes Keiran Sturrock after receiving international clearance.

Broughty manager McCunnie has a couple of players recovering from niggling injuries but expects to be on the usual lines.

Downfield entertain Luncarty.

The Bleachers are on the same points total as the Spiders and Paul Marr’s side will be out to get back in the winning way after losing their last two matches.

The Bleachers include defender Scott Mollison, who they have signed from Jeanfield Swifts, while Danny Dobbie returns from injury.

However, Jim Yates is a slight doubt while Stuart Nicol is still sidelined.

Tayport, meanwhile, will be keen to turn the tables on Kirrie Thistle when the pair meet at Westview Park.

Kirrie beat ’Port 3-1 when they met at The Canniepairt and the hosts will be full of confidence following last week’s great cup win over Largs Thistle.

For Tayport, Conor Ireland is still out injured and Lyall Shaw is suspended. However, there is a chance Greg Whyte could return.

Thistle are without suspended pair Cammy Black and Rori Bews, while Stuart McKenna is injured.

North End are another club where confidence isn’t in short supply and, following their win at Dalry last week, the trip to Forfar WE should hold no fears for Ross Lunan’s side.

West End list the same squad of squad of 17 that performed so manfully in last week’s Scottish Cup defeat at Auchinleck.
