Connor’s winner seals success

-

THERE was a reduced fixture list in the Chamber Practice-sponsored Dundee Saturday Morning Football League (DSMFL) with teams using their free week to attend the Dundee derby.

One league match went ahead in the Doc Ferry’ssponsored Premier Division with Park Tool’s 2-0 lead being pegged back by Cairdy Thistle through efforts from Adie Briad and Darren Forbes.

With the game looking like a draw, Ryan Connor popped up with a lastminute winner to move Cairdy to third with games in hand on Bank Street and DUSC above them.

In the Premier Division Cup game that was played, two penalties ensured DUSC came from behind against Riverside CSC to nab the point they needed to book the first of the quarter-final places.

In the Riverview Utilities First Division Cup games, FC Spartak and Sporting Club of Tayside recorded 5-1 wins against Clark’s FC and Club 83 respectively to put points on the board in Group A.

In Group B, Dundee West trailed 3-0 to Kelso at the interval but a rejig of the pack and canny substitutions from gaffer Brian Rocks saw them emerge 5-3 winners in a superb turnaround.

Man-of-the-Match Keir Murray nabbed a hat-trick with a penalty from Ryan Whyte and a free-kick from Sean Murray giving Kelso the three points.

DUMS also got off to a winning start in that group with a 2-1 victory over Fife Thistle B.

Powrie picked up maximum points in their 4-2 success against North End.

In the Trident Trophies Second Division Cup, Polepark got off to a superb start in Group A with a 4-2 victory against Abertay.

This weekend sees clubs participate en masse in the Direct Soccer-sponsored North of Tay Cup.

Four all-DSMFL ties will be played in the morning, Finlathen v Cairdy Thistle, Riverside Athletic v Park Tool Athletic, Riverside CSC v Occidental and Fintry Athletic v Dundee West.

Dryburgh have the pick of the ties when they take on Menzieshill from the Midlands League while The Maidens’ trip to Perth to take on Jeanfield Swifts also stands out.

Powrie are away to North of Tay holders Kinross.
