Robbo is best full-back in world and we need him around says Dyer

SCOTLAND assistant Alex Dyer has hailed Andy Robertson as the best full-back in the world.

Dyer also underlined the impor tance of having the Champions Leaguewinning Liverpool left-back with the national squad despite being injured.

An ankle injury has ruled Robertson, 25, out of the Euro 2020 qualifiers with Cyprus and Kazakhstan.

However, the national captain still met up with the squad in their Edinburgh base.

He will remain with the Scots until they jet out to Cyprus on Friday without him.

Dyer said: “It is important that Andy i s here for the build-up. He’s a big part of things here.

“He’s arguably the best full-back in Europe, if not the world, and we need him around.

“Andy is a good leader. It’s sad he can’t train and play but it’s a good chance for someone else to step up to the plate.

“A n d y wa n t s to be around for a few days.”

Robertson i s one of three Premier League players to withdraw from the Scotland squad this week.

Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser has also pulled out alongside Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

McTominay was carried off during U n i t e d ’s 3-1 weekend win over Brighton & Hove Albion, while Fraser played the full 90 minutes of Bournemouth’s 2-1 loss at Newcastle United.

Defender Liam Cooper, the Leeds United captain, also withdrew injured.

Former Dons captain Graeme Shinnie, who moved to Derby County in the summer, was added to the squad along with Celtic’s Lewis Morgan.
