Winning every week is the nature of the beast at United says Robbie

-

DERBY victories are nice but Dundee United have to win every single week.

That’s the opinion of Tangerines boss Robbie Neilson.

United saw off city rivals Dundee 2-0 in the second derby of the season at Dens last Friday to move six points clear at the top of the Championship and nine ahead of the Dark Blues.

However, Robbie insists that result is now behind them and they must turn their focus to Queen of the South’s visit to Tannadice on Saturday.

“We need t o win on Saturday, that’s it really. That’s the nature of the beast at Dundee United,” he said.

“Everyone will be happy this week but we must make sure we come in at half-time against Queen of the South having played really well and, hopefully, in the lead.

“If not, pressure builds again but that’s part and parcel of playing at a big football club.

“You have to win every single week – that’s how you win titles. It doesn’t matter what you do in a derby, you have to match it when you go and play your next home game.”

The Terrors are in the midst of a four-match winning run which, ironically, began after their humiliating 4-0 defeat at Queen of South last month.

United have also not conceded in that stretch of good form and, asked if his team are starting to look like champions with their recent results and displays, Robbie was quick to temper expectations.

He added: “We certainly didn’t look like it at Queen of the South.

“There’s a long way to go – a long, long way to go – and there will be a lot of ups and downs.

“Friday was a definite up but we need to make sure there’s not too many downs.”
