Street blocked off in police incident

- BY JAMES MASSON

PART of a street in Perth city centre was blocked off for an hour and a half last night following reports of a disturbance.

The drama began around 8pm and ended around 9.30pm, with residents looking on while surrounding streets were closed.

Kinnoull Street was blocked off from its junction with Murray Street to its junction with Union Street with the emergency services activity centred on a block of flats near to the La Serie A restaurant.

An onlooker said: “There were a load of police there together with the fire service and an ambulance.

“There were four police vehicles, a fire appliance with a hydraulic platform and there was also a fire officer’s car. Entrance to properties was restricted. It looked pretty serious and a number of people gathered at the scene, some of them residents wondering what was going on. They were all being kept behind a cordon. It was pretty intense stuff but I’m not entirely sure what the problem was. The area is a mix of housing and commercial premises.

“There is also a pub, a takeaway and a church and the Pullar House council offices are there, too, so it is an area that is well populated most of the day. A mix of people live in the flats where the focus of attention was.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers in Perth were called to reports of a disturbance in the

Kinnoull Street area of Perth around 8.30pm on Thursday November 14, 2019. A 30-year-old man was arrested and will appear at Perth Sheriff Court today.”
