Dec’s five-star show is perfect tonic for West
DECLAN Mason was star man as Dundee West swept aside DUSC in the U/15 Tommy Clark Trophy.
The striker bagged five of his side’s goals in the 9-2 win with the others coming from James O’Neil, Josh Abbot, Fergus Holmes and Jake Davies.
Manager Billy Davidson was delighted with Mason’s performance but also that of his team who had dropped their standards in recent weeks.
Davidson said: “We started strongly and stayed strong throughout the game.
“We’ve had a couple of blips over the last few weeks but we bounced back well on Sunday.”
Along with the scorers Davidson also singled out keeper Milo McDonald and left-sided midfielder Andrew Cameron for their role in the victory.
“Milo did well and Andrew is just one of these players who never stops working. I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves.”
The win sets West up nicely for this weekend when they travel up the coast to Arbroath for a Bill Mills League clash against ACSC at Hercules Den.
Davidson sees it as an ideal opportunity to grab three points and keep the pressure on leaders Forfar Boys.
“We’ve already played them and won well so we’ll be looking to follow up that performance.
“We’ll also be looking to continue on from where we left off last week.
“We are second at the moment but there is still a long way to go.
“We know we can’t afford too many slips and we need to find some consistency.
“But I’ve a feeling if we can get ourselves to the top, we can stay there.”
There was better news for DUSC’s U/14 side as they moved into the second round of the Reilly/Falconer Cup thanks to a resounding 5-1 win over Arbroath Lads Club on the Craigie astroturf pitch.
